We have plenty of reasons to worry, or so we think. Our plans, other people’s plans for us, and all our expectations can leave us stressed and anxious. Basically, when we worry, we feel a false sense of control over the future.
We tell ourselves to not worry; some take medications for anxiety, although worry and an anxiety disorder are not the same thing. Restlessness and racing thoughts prevent sleep, which adds to our worry.
However, there is no reason to worry. We have no control over the future, no means of knowing what is coming, and by worrying we expend energy that would serve us better otherwise.
Sometimes we fall into a “what if?” mentality. Nonetheless, we tend to worry about negative predictions. It is just as simple to ask, “What if?” with a positive bent. “What if I survive?” “What if I get the job?” “What if I perform well?”
Worry is actually worthless. Its only power is to make us feel unsettled, nervous, and, well, to worry more.
Not so easy to quit? Effort changes our mindset. When you have someone to trust with your future, it is easier to let go. Jesus is one hundred percent trustworthy. He is not a genie who answers our every wish, but he is God, and He is good.
I trust him to know what is best. I know his grace covers every scenario when I am tempted to worry.
