How to Win a War Against Free Speech

Always the Fight Ministries: Displaying compassion for those fighting mental illness, addiction, or abuse. (c)2019Nancy Virden …..

Free speech is taking a beating these days. With fake news, fake videos, and false rumors, social media is empowered to silence less popular voices. With an interest in encouraging actual tolerance, this post is tongue-in-cheek.

To win your war against free speech you need certain weapons and a specific worldview…

You must have no doubt that freedom to disagree hinders your rights.

Those who do not think like you are “opponents” or “haters.”

Gather ammunition in the form of verbiage and innuendo, not facts.

Highlight a false narrative.

Refuse to be teachable. Never listen with the intent of gaining insight.

Be prepared to argue spitefully or to shout down anyone who disagrees.

Accuse opponents of harmful motives and deny their abilities to thoughtfully approach a topic.

De-humanize people by referring to opponents as “they,” or “all.”

Be a troll.  A woman celebrated when a person with whom she disagreed was forced to take down his Twitter account due to her interference. She did not like my less-than-celebratory reaction to her news so she trolled me too.

Always use a superior attitude. Make sure to surround yourself with people who agree with you – especially if they like you because of shared beliefs. Consider all others as uneducated parasites.

Never fact check.  “Never let the facts get in the way of a good story,” Mark Twain supposedly said. Turns out, Twain is not the author of that line. Do not let this knowledge or other misquotes stop you. Instead, utilize whatever falsehood works to energize your point.

Twist and misrepresent the words of people you do not like. Your goal, of course, is to make them out to seem foolish and untrustworthy.

Above all else, hypocritically blame others for doing the same. A meme I read said, “Libtards are always calling names and making generalities pegging the rest of us as all the same. That is stupid.”  Read that again.

There you have it, the strategies to win a war against free speech. Only remember, once free speech is gone, it is not replaceable. If you succeed at shutting down other voices, you will be next.
